Yellow Flowered Dress

When I spotted this fabric it was what I would describe it as love at first sight. I've shown you this in earlier posts, however I thought it was time to finally do a proper lookbook for it. Here are some photos!

Polka Dot Mustard

The colour mustard and I have had a long lasting love/hate relationship. As a child every time I saw this not really brown but not really yellow colour I reeled away from it in disgust. Now that I am older, I am starting to see its beauty especially when worn the right way. The moment I spotted this long sleeved shirt and long pants duo for sale in a vintage store, I fell in love.

The pants were originally long and baggy (waaayy past my ankles) so I decided to trim them off and make them into cuffed high-waisted shorts. Wah-lah! These once grandma pants, were transformed into something chic and wearable.

The black top also featured in these pictures is one I have designed and sewn. I didn't have a cute little black top to wear with these shorts, so I decided to make my own. It was kind of a quick night-before-I-wore-it job, but I think it still turned out okay!

PS. I will also show you the matching mustard shirt in another outfit post soon ;)

Peachy Keen

There is nothing that gets me more excited than peach and leopard print. So why not combine the two? The moment I saw this little gem in the vintage store I fell in love with its simple design, soft texture and stunning colour. Not bad for $6 right?

I paired it with my favourite belt of the moment and some little black booties to top off the deal. What do you think?

This Week's Events

So I haven't posted anything in over a week! What is wrong with me!? Let me just update you on some things that have been going on in my life..

1. There is now a set date for the Fashion Show, it will be held on July 15th at the Cereal Box, which is a Friday night. It will be an exclusive event and you will need to purchase tickets that will cost no more than $10 each.

2. I had an interview with the Townsville Bulletin today!! They are doing a feature on me about my clothes, when the article comes out I will definitely post a copy of it here!

3. I am currently amidst a busy university semester that involves alot of writing and loads of study. Eeeek.

4. I'm currently designing and starting to make the new designs that I have drawn. I am busy making a dress involving lace at the moment. To get everything done I will need to make at least two garments a week....oh man.

5. My Fashion Column is also underway, I have an interview next week with a man who designs his own t-shirt line. I'm also working on a Street Style section of my column where I am photographing girls with unique styles and then writing a small caption with each photo. (If you would like to be in it, more information will be put up soon). A Winter Trends piece is also on the draftboard where I will be showing girls how to achieve a certain look.

6. My photographer friend is also going to photograph me on Monday for my lookbook, so look forward to many more outfit posts from me. I've had a bit of a drought there!

7. I just submitted an application form Starburst which is a program run by Youth Arts Townsville. A program that helps young people get their creative ideas off the ground. Receiving their grant will be excellent in helping put together the fashion show and being able to continue designing. I really encourage young people to go for this in the future!! There's just so many opportunities out there that most of us aren't even aware of. So please, if you have a talent, I say GO FOR IT!

Here is a sneak peak of some of the clothes I will be photographed in on Monday, they include my latest online indulgences and some sweet vintage finds that I've modified. Check back to see how I've styled them!

Thank you to my recent new followers and for those who always check my blog, it's nice to feel that my blog is being read!! Have a lovely weekend all!

Work Station

The middle of the week is when my schedule starts to intensify. Actually, I think my whole week is full to the brim with uni, appointments, projects and work. As the months progress, it will only become more hectic as assignment due dates etch closer and closer and sideline projects such as sewing start to become a great deal larger.

So it's not only important to keep in touch with friends, but to also put aside a little time for yourself just to gather your thoughts and get your mind back on track. What better place to do it then your own little room? My "work station" as I like to call it, is a room filled with things that I love where I can partake in hobbies that I enjoy.

My favourite room is filled with sewing equipment, craft supplies, fabric, mac computers <3, clothes and images that inspire me. So I invite you to take a tour of my own lovely creative work station. This is a place where my projects take place and my creative juices eagerly flow from within. Let's take a look shall we?

Here is my sewing desk! I generally like to keep my macbook pro beside me at all times in case of a sudden urge to blog/facebook addiction....

Here is the right side of my work station with my imac sitting there looking beautiful, as well as some Uni books, my inspiration board and a dress I made a while ago hanging up.

Here is my sewing cupboard, I would show you inside, except its so full I'm afraid every time I open it that some object will come crashing down on top of me. Here are some magazines I've been flicking through as well, although my Frankie isn't there, which is definitely a staple read!!

My over locker (it's been temperamental lately) perhaps it's showing its old age? You can also see some sewing books there as well as my pin cushions and some patterns I've made.

Say hello to Ruby! (my mannequin). My different assortments of fabric and trusty black folder of cottons are also on display here!

So there you have it, the room where I spend a great deal of my time in. Is it weird that as soon as I see my sewing machine I instantly become inspired to sew? As small as this room is, it has a quaint cosy feel to it, one which I feel most at home in.

Be inspired.
Sincerely,

Yellow Frilled Dress

Hello lovelies!

Here is a sneak peek preview of what the new collection is going to look like! I am aiming to make about 20 outfits to showcase for the mid-year Fashion Show at Cereal Box. This is the first item I have made for it so far and I have many more designs that I will be making in the meantime to get ready for it.

I stayed up until 2am to try to finish this (I have this annoying pet hate about going to bed with the nagging feeling that I haven't completed something!). As exhausted as I was I chose to retire and finish it today because this dress was quite complicated.

This is made from 100% recycled fabric, I hope you like it!

So so sorry about the quality! Unfortunately my camera is being difficult with self-timer, however I wanted to include it anyway because a dress can look completely different on a person than what it looks like on the mannequin!

Have a lovely day! I am off to do some more uni work.. :(

BE EXCITED!

Hello everyone!

I'd like to take some time today to tell you of all the exciting things that I am headed for in the future! Updating this blog is getting harder as I get busier, however, I will still try my best to make it as regular as I can.

You are now looking at the newest Fashion Journalist for Mayhem Magazine! A local arts/fashion/culture magazine located in the Townsville region soon extending to Mackay and Cairns. My job includes writing stories about fashion in those areas as well as upcoming designers. I also get to have my very own Fashion Column! How exciting!! I'm really looking forward to getting a start on that :) When they are published I will post pictures on here of it!

A mid-year Fashion Show is also in the talk with Cereal Box.. I will be designing and creating a collection of clothes to showcase at Cereal Box, with models wearing my designs walking a runway! I'm hoping to make about 20 outfits to showcase and hopefully find about 20 girls to wear them on the night. I will be posting here about the progress and organization of what the show involves here. Lately I've been doing a fair bit of model scouting...I will be doing more of that as the Fashion Show etches closer and closer. Another photo shoot with the designs will also be produced around this time as well :)

I am getting to be extremely busy with designing and making clothes, maintaining this blog, having my own fashion column, attending full-time university and working part time! But hey, they say if you love something to immerse yourself in it. So I say, FULL STEAM AHEAD!
